The log – a key navigational tool for all sailors alike. Sitting just proud of the hull through a skin fitting it is common for these paddle wheels to get fouled and require some cleaning. Take a look at this blog post to see a step by step guide:
Step by Step Guide:
- Locate the log – usually fitted down the centre line of your vessel, forward of the keel
- Gain access by lifting bilge boards
- Ensure you have a correct size bung, toothbrush and tea towel to hand
- Unscrew and remove log and quickly replace with bung
- Clean paddle wheel using a small toothbrush
- Use a small amount of Chilli Oil to both lubricate the wheel and ward of regrowth
- Unscrew the bung and replace log, ensuring the forward arrow is facing forward and down the centre line of the vessel
- Mop out excess water
- Check and ensure leak free
- Replace Bilge Boards and test
