How to clean the log on board your vessel – Video Tutorial

The log – a key navigational tool for all sailors alike. Sitting just proud of the hull through a skin fitting it is common for these paddle wheels to get fouled and require some cleaning. Take a look at this blog post to see a step by step guide:

Step by Step Guide:

  1. Locate the log – usually fitted down the centre line of your vessel, forward of the keel
  2. Gain access by lifting bilge boards
  3. Ensure you have a correct size bung, toothbrush and tea towel to hand
  4. Unscrew and remove log and quickly replace with bung
  5. Clean paddle wheel using a small toothbrush
  6. Use a small amount of Chilli Oil to both lubricate the wheel and ward of regrowth
  7. Unscrew the bung and replace log, ensuring the forward arrow is facing forward and down the centre line of the vessel
  8. Mop out excess water
  9. Check and ensure leak free
  10. Replace Bilge Boards and test
